The Azerbaijan Campaign to Ban Landmines (AzCBL) is a member of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize winning International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL).

As a national non-governmental organization, operating from Baku, Azerbaijan, with projects in mine-affected regions of the country, the AzCBL aims to do its utmost towards creating a landmine-free Azerbaijan.  To date, the government of Azerbaijan, together with the rest of the South Caucasus region, has not yet joined the more than 80% of the world’s countries who are currently party to the international Mine Ban Treaty.  Making this happen is one of the highest priorities of the AzCBL.

Taking into account the official stance of the governments of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the AzCBL has promoted the idea of both countries joining and ratifying the Mine Ban Treaty immediately and simultaneously.

In addition to its Mine Ban Treaty advocacy efforts, the AzCBL is devoted to monitoring all mine action activities in Azerbaijan, conducting research on these activities for the annual global Landmine Monitor Report, raising public awareness about the landmine problem in Azerbaijan, and promoting the physical, psychological and socio-economic rehabilitation of survivors of landmine incidents throughout the country.

In Defence of AzCBL

ANAMA recently attacked AzCBL in a letter to the Ambassador of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and 1997 Nobel Laureate, Jody Williams.
