Economic Opportunities

The goal of this project is to provide support for the economic reintegration of mine survivors in Azerbaijan. The project aims to provide the tools needed to empower these individuals to become fully-functioning, self-sufficient members of society who can live their lives with dignity and move beyond their traumatic past.

This goal is being reached by fulfilling two specific objectives.  First, interested mine survivors residing in four regions have attended free training seminars informing them about the legal fundamentals of starting a small business and the process of receiving and managing a micro-credit loan.  Second, six mine survivors have been chosen to receive a micro-credit loan to launch their own small businesses.

This project will function as a pilot project to test the feasibility of the AzCBL’s use of such a strategy to assist mine survivors in Azerbaijan.  If successful, this approach could ideally be expanded to a wider group of mine survivors in future AzCBL programming.
