Information and Lobbying Campaign to Ban Landmines

The AzCBL is actively engaged in its ongoing activities to promote the spread of information regarding the landmine problem in Azerbaijan and to lobby for Azerbaijan’s accession to the Mine Ban Treaty.   The activities carried out within the framework of this project have contributed to the promotion of the Azerbaijan’s accession to the Ottawa Convention to establish a complete, and permanent ban on the use, production, stockpiling and transfer of landmines in Azerbaijan.
 
Activities include:
  • Media Outreach (including press conferences, personal interviews and a television advertisement promoting the Mine Ban Treaty)
  • Distribution of special leaflets to government officials and parliamentarians
  • Roundtable discussion  on the topic of “World tendencies after signing Ottawa Convention and situation in Azerbaijan
  • Translation and publication of the 2004 Azerbaijan country report from the Landmine Monitor Report in Azeri and English
  • Creation and maintenance of the AzCBL website
  • Lobby Meetings
  • Participation in international conferences
  • Promoting youth engagement in the mine ban movement
  • Field visits to mine-affected regions
  • Distribution of AzCBL News Bulletins
