Mine Ban Treaty Advocacy

The primary purpose of this project is to promote Azerbaijan’s accession to the MBT through advocacy work at three levels: with governmental structures and parliamentarians, with relevant local and international organizations, and with the Azeri public at large.

The AzCBL’s advocacy work in these realms will achieve the following objectives:

  • To inform, persuade and discuss with decision makers, relevant government representatives and Members of Parliament about the importance of joining the MBT.
  • To promote dialogue and action towards making Azerbaijan’s accession to the MBT possible.
  • To engage and partner with other non-governmental and international organizations working in relevant fields and inform them about the AzCBL’s activities
  • To create an informed media, educated about both the landmine issue in general as well as the nature of the MBT and its application to the situation in Azerbaijan, and equipped to report effectively on these topics.
  • To form public opinion against the use of antipersonnel landmines and in favour of the MBT.
  • To engage local young people in the mine ban movement and in active participation in advocacy and public awareness efforts.
